I posted about MO Attorney General Jay Nixon's attempt to warn campaigns about "illegal" robo calls in Missouri a few weeks ago.
The AG is running for Governor and, a two months before election day he made a big splash about enforcing the Federal robocall law in the state of MO.
The law, again a federal law, mandates that every robocall must include two things: 1) an indication of who paid for the call and 2) a call back number or address so that a recipient of the call can attempt to be placed on a "do not call" list for that specific campaign.
This was the press release from the AG's office:
Attorney General Jay Nixon today alerted political campaigns in Missouri that even though the state No Call law does not prohibit political "robo-calls", federal law is clear in requiring all telephone calls using pre-recorded messages to identify who is initiating the calls and include a telephone number or address to reach them. Nixon also is asking Missourians who receive robo-calls that don't comply with the law to file complaints, so his office can take legal action.
Now comes a blog post from a MO resident saying that he got an Obama call with one of the two federal mandates included: who paid for the call. However, the call back number is missing.
Now, we don't have a dog in this fight and doubt that AG Nixon is going to spend any of his political capital going after the Obama campaign in MO. But we will see.
Here is the call:
