The plight of a refugee is harrowingly difficult, often marked by a flight from war, only to face exhausting journeys, hunger, new homes, new languages, separated families and unwelcoming faces in unfamiliar lands. And yet they tread forward.

There are 15-20 million refugees world wide. Refugees are people seeking asylum in a foreign country in order to escape persecution, war, terrorism, extreme poverty, famines and natural disaster.

The majority of refugees who leave their country seek asylum in countries neighboring their country of nationality. The "durable solutions" to refugee populations, as defined by UNHCR and governments, are: voluntary repatriation to the country of origin; local integration into the country of asylum; and resettlement to a third country.

But often refugees are ignored or forgotten by their own governments and the governments of the countries who absorb them. Refugees become nameless and faceless and lost in foreign lands as they struggle, along with nationals, to provide for themsleves and their families. But they are fighters.

People need to join them in this fight and battle with them towards sustainable futures rich with opportunity, joy and life.
