The Nairobi Orphan Project is a non-profit organization, dedicated to ending child poverty in Kenya, by building schools for aids orphans. We work with local organizations to identify the needs of rural communities and help break the cycle of extreme poverty.
It was established in 2007 by Dane Bailey after he read an article about a Kenyan orphan, whose uncle stabbed him to death because of his HIV status. This story highlights the terrible stigma associated with HIV and the disastrous consequences it has for Aids orphans. Our schools seek to alleviate this stigma by educating our students about the disease and teaching them the value of tolerance and compassion towards their fellow classmates who are HIV positive.
We have a dedicated team of volunteers who generously give their time to make a positive lasting impact in the lives of these orphans, through the gift of education. By providing proper food, accommodation and education, we are empowering the students to create their own bright futures, which in turn benefits the entire community.
We believe that education is key to the future success of Kenya’s 1 million children orphaned by extreme poverty and the fast spreading Aids epidemic. In order to provide the next generation with all the tools they need to become leaders of their own country and communities, we need to break the cycle of poverty early in their childhood.
Our goal is to build boarding schools for orphans aged 5 years old, so that their first ever learning experience will be in a safe and inspiring environment. It is paramount that the students establish proper learning and social skills in the critical years of their early development.
We aim to empower the students to ultimately improve socio-economic conditions for their community, country and future generations.
All donations for the Nairobi Orphan Project can be made to The International Humanities Center (memo: Nairobi Orpan Project). The International Humanities Center is a nonprofit public charity exempt from federal income tax under section 501[c](3) of IRS code.
