Front-end/UI Developer

Have you been working with Ajax, Ruby on Rails and JavaScript professionally?

We are looking for a Front End/UI developer to help build a world-class dynamic Web application in Ruby on Rails, Javascript and HTML. Successful candidates should have 5 or more years of experience building Web sites and have a strong general grasp of computer science fundamentals.

Some responsibilities you'll have in this position:

  • Visualize ideal information layout and application behavior to accomplish the business goals of a feature. Distill numerous requirements and priorities into clear and simple functionality.
  • Work to implement browser UI and behaviors, using Ajax techniques where appropriate.
  • Write unbreakable code that will work across a variety of browsers.
  • Work well with a focused team of specialists in visual design, marketing and business management.
  • Continuously improve personal and group processes for development, testing, measurement, and deployment of a highly scalable site.

Technical skills should have many (or all) of the following:

  • Ruby, JavaScript, CSS, Rails
  • Linux and/or Solaris admin and scripting skills
  • MySQL
  • Familiarity with Web and database scalability techniques
  • Pluses:

    • Other programming languages, databases, platforms
    • Experience in other areas of software development

    Above all, you must have a strong drive to master new technologies and a proven ability to learn as you go.

    Responsibilities

    • Own the Razoo Scorecard and other performance reports, which are the barometers by which we measure success and refine our business. (We are numbers people.)
    • Design, implement and manage marketing campaigns – using online (paid and organic), social media, email, and offline tools – to build and expand relationships with new and existing users.
    • Participate in Product Development meetings as an advocate for our users to provide feedback on the existing site features and make suggestions for improvements, features, and strategies to drive site activity, enhance user experience, improve member engagement.
    • Write and edit content for web pages, Giving Guides, email newsletters, customer service collateral, and other assets as needed.
    • Develop and implement an online and offline customer service vision, philosophy and policy.
    • Develop project plans and keep initiatives running according to plan in coordination with Marketing, User Experience, and Software Development teams.

    Qualifications

    • 5 –10 years of experience in successfully growing and cultivating audiences and donor bases using online tools and marketing strategies
    • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business, communications, or a related field
    • Strong written communications skills (e.g., writing copy for marketing materials)
    • Strong project management skills (attention to detail, ability to manage against budgets and deadlines, ability to develop project plans, etc.)
    • Analytical ability (to measure effectiveness of marketing campaigns)

    Desired Qualifications

    • Web Site analytics experience (e.g., Google Analytics, Web Side Story, Omniture, Webtrends)
    • Experience with social media, including microformats, social networks, websites, etc.
